In times when the music industry is fighting “loudness wars”, it is possible to stand out by simply… being quiet. This is the starting point of the Prague Quiet Music Collective, which wants to counterbalance the constant poking at our attention by offering objects for deep presence. If the direction of our focus is not dictated from outside but must be chosen consciously, elements emerge that otherwise risk being forgotten: slowness, fleetingness, fragility and subtle details.

Since its formation in 2021, the Prague Quiet Music Collective has commissioned over fifty works, helping to establish a new repertoire tailored for intimate listening. The ensemble consists of Ian Mikyska on viola da gamba, guitar and recorder, Anna Paulová on clarinet and bass clarinet, Milan Jakeš on violin and Luan Gonçalves on double bass – a group of instruments whose sounding bodies together are capable of producing very quiet sounds.
