The norwegian ensemble Asamisamasa was founded in 2002 by musicians who all shared the same passion for contemporary and experimental music. Several pieces have been dedicated to the ensemble and they have collaborating with composers such as Helmut Lachenmann, Mathias Spahlinger, Nicolaus A. Huber, Aldo Clementi, Alvin Lucier, Brian Ferneyhough and Helmut Oehring.
In their performances they often choose to contextualize the new, contemporary pieces by also playing a more classical and modern classical repertoar. In 2012 they won a norwegian grammy for best contemporary music recording with their first release of compositions by Simon Steen-Andersen.
